Perhaps because Ciampa went down with injury/went away for surgery and they wanted to redo D.I.Y on the main roster (which would be fantastic imo), the only time Gargano got a pop was on his return/debut.  The badass finish to Aleister Black vs. Johnny Gargano “I absolve you of yours sins” • NXT Takeover ...  Yay, you are right. It helps that Dark Phoenix kinda matches up with Johnny right now, to an extent. He was beat down and broken after losing his title shot, was "reborn" as Dark Johhny, who will do whatever it takes to win. also, if you want any recs, let me know.  It's clearly only polarizing because people wanted to find reasons to dislike NXT, and specifically Gargano and Cole at the time. What they did in their series was no different them virtually every good AEW match there's ever been.
